Mélanie
Manager
After my studies, I worked for four years in a consultancy that specialised in retail, managing such various assignments as corporate strategy to the implementation of IT systems for leading retailers in Europe.
A friend of mine told me that strategy consulting is like bringing clarity to a dark environment. I think this is very true: We do help clients get out of their “cave” and see outside of their current world of business, helping them enter into or try new markets, reshape their business model or build partnerships.
At OC&C, I think what really makes us different is our team spirit, built around core values like respect, merit, and excellence in work. There are a lot of collective work partners involved in issue analysis, sharing their experience with the most junior consultants.

I graduated from HEC Paris, accumulating experiences in apparently opposite fields, with internships in auditing (Ernst & Young) and marketing (Reckitt Benckiser, Danone). Strategy consulting enabled me to find what I liked in both of these experiences: working in a rigorous and challenging environment while always tackling new issues with a creative approach.
I appreciate what makes the very nature of our work here at OC&C: It is not only about listening to what the client thinks and writing the ‘sexiest’ document possible, or about dictating to highly experienced and skilled people the objectives they will have to reach afterwards, but about re-thinking the business step by step and helping clients to decide and achieve ambitious objectives that they thought impossible!
Do you know many international consulting firms where “strategy” is not only part of the brand name but the reality of the daily work of each consultant and where the latter are both humble and ambitious? Well, it’s true at OC&C.

I studied engineering with a specialisation in construction - my favourite attire during the beginning of my professional years being boots and a helmet – where I managed the construction of bridges, including the first use in France of high-resistance concrete which was used in a bridge designed for army tanks!
Seeking more intellectual challenge, I changed the boots and helmet for a suit and tie and joined one of the top strategy consulting firms in Europe. After six years of work experience and a backpacking trip around the world, I eventually made it to OC&C.
I have found the people here to have a very distinctive character: hard-working but with a real sense of freedom. There is a lot of creativity and sharing of views across offices. The level of international collaboration is amazing. And OC&C is respectful of a consultant’s quality of life – at every level, it is possible to have a successful career together with a family life and personal projects and interests are encouraged and supported. At OC&C, we look for talented, charismatic and unique individuals – and we work hard to maintain these characteristics and allow them to flourish.

I chose strategy consulting because I think it is where you can have the broadest vision of business: you get to meet and work with high-level clients and the recommendations you make will have the most impact on the organisation as a whole.
OC&C is a great career choice if strategy consulting interests you, as it is a top firm with extremely high professional standards but also a place where young consultants like me are valued and very quickly involved both within the project team and with the client. The learning curve is exponential!
Working here has been great – the projects are interesting, the clients are high-level and co-workers are fun to be with. What more could you ask for?

I joined OC&C after studying business at ESCP-EAP and law at Nanterre University. When I graduated, I realised I wanted to keep on discovering various environments and chose strategy consulting for this very reason.
At OC&C, I immediately had the feeling that juniors were involved in the project at a “global level”, and not only required for fragmented tasks: your knowledge is valued and recommendations are taken into account – as long as it is well-argued!
Another strong motivation for joining OC&C is the quality of relationships – there is just the right balance between familiarity and professionalism.
In a very short time you can learn a lot about an industry you may not have known anything about!

For me, the greatest thing about OC&C is the people – genuinely interesting, smart, reliable and enthusiastic individuals who are very much committed to delivering quality, and with a strong sense of fun! This is what makes my work at OC&C challenging and enjoyable at the same time.
From the very first day of my internship at OC&C, I felt that strategy consulting was a fascinating and exciting job. However, I assumed I would have to give it up some day for something more important, like family. But I now have two children and, thanks to OC&C, manage to combine an exciting and fulfilling job with family life.

I joined OC&C after graduating from Essec and several years at a major advertising group working as brand management and relationship marketing consultant for key retail and FMCG brands.
What I really appreciate here at OC&C is the friendly atmosphere and the broad diversity of our assignments.
A couple of tips for your application process: 1. Do your homework (be clear about your strengths and weaknesses, learn more about OC&C, train yourself on case studies); 2. When interviewing, just relax and show confidence. Beyond analytical skills, we pay a lot of attention to questions like “would I like to board him/her on my project, leave him/her alone in the client, spend 2-3 months on a project in Russia with him/her?”

I joined OC&C after the recruiting workshop
“You Know You Can”
in 2007 followed by a 4-month internship in the Paris office that confirmed my initial fit with the teams as well as with the firm’s culture.
Whatever the seniority, we are all very involved in the firm’s development. We are asked about our expectations and actively take part to the discussions shaping OC&C’s future. On project cases, I am impressed by two differentiating factors for OC&C: (1) This firm is really fast to empower and trust junior consultants, and (2) Partners spend a lot of time and energy with the project team, sharing their expertise and valuable insights to all of us.
In our recruitment interviews, we expect candidates to follow a clear and logical approach, demonstrate business sense and take realistic assumptions to estimate the size of a market for instance. I’d recommend candidates to work on several case study exercises. Yet, the case study part is not enough: We also look for candidates that would be fun to work with and who could easily fit into OC&C!
